This significant achievement came during Sri Lanka’s second group-stage match against Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Samarawickrama has been a key player across formats for Sri Lanka. She was only 17 years old when she made her international debut in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2016 against Ireland. Although her debut wasn’t ideal—she was dismissed for a duck—she soon made her mark. Later that year, she made her ODI debut in September 2016 during Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka.

One of her breakthrough moments came during the Commonwealth Games Women’s Cricket Competition Qualifiers, where she scored her first T20I fifty for Sri Lanka against Malaysia, an unbeaten 65, earning her the Player of the Match award. In the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup, Samarawickrama was in fine form, scoring 81 against Thailand and finishing as the leading run-scorer for Sri Lanka in the tournament with 202 runs, also becoming the second-highest run-scorer overall. Her ability to anchor the innings and guide her team through pressure situations has made her one of the most reliable batters in the squad.
