Six-time champions Australia have lost only two of the 12 T20Is they’ve played this year, winning series 2-1 against India and 3-0 against Bangladesh in away fixtures, while at home they secured a 2-1 victory against South Africa, followed by a 3-0 sweep over New Zealand. In their official warmup games, Australia won both matches against England and West Indies, though their performances were not entirely convincing.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka, who recorded an impressive 15 wins from 19 T20Is this year, suffered a heavy 31-run loss to Pakistan in their opening 2024 World Cup game. Udeshika Prabodhani, Sugandika Kumari, and Chamari Athapaththu shone with individual 3-fers, dismissing Pakistan for 116. However, disciplined bowling from Pakistan saw them remove Chamari early, with Sri Lanka’s innings faltering as they were restricted to 85/9.

Head-to-head, Sri Lanka has yet to defeat Australia in T20Is, having lost all seven games so far, including their last meeting at the 2023 World Cup. Despite this record, this contest between two in-form teams promises to be an exciting one.
