Goulburn Murray Cricket looks out for more female players for their Junior Competition

Goulburn Murray Cricket (GMC) is calling on for more local girls of Australia to join their competition as the new cricket season is about to start.
As many of the girls who are turning 15 will move to the senior ranks, GMC Board Member Christy O’Brien wants junior girls to play for them.

It is the third year of the junior competition and GMC has enjoyed a good number of participation from the local girls. However, they need to attract more girls to ensure that they have enough participation for future years.

The GMC Junior Girls competition is usually conducted on a Friday evening. This season as many as four teams have shown interest in participation. The participating teams include two teams from Echuca Cricket Club, one team each from Bamawm-Lockington United and Kyabram Fire Brigade.

Currently, some of the girls also play with the boys in under 12 and under 14 categories and will be assets for their team if they play well.

Goulburn Murray Cricket wishes that all local clubs identify and encourage young girls to play and get involved in the game.

“There is strong support at our association level, and also from Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia for girls and women’s cricket, however, our clubs need to drive the interest at a local level,” O’Brien said to Brayden May for Riverine Herald.

The girls will get proper support and guidance, as well as exposure to competitive cricket from a young age which will help improve their game.
