In their first warm-up match, Bangladesh showcased a commendable bowling performance, taking 7 wickets and restricting Sri Lanka to 143 runs. The spinners were pivotal, displaying both economy and effectiveness throughout the innings. Unfortunately, Bangladesh’s batting fell apart in the second innings, losing wickets in quick succession. They lost their first wicket for 16 and their second for 17. Following the loss of their next couple on scores of 35 and 39, they suffered a severe collapse, losing 4 wickets for just 9 runs. A late recovery helped them finish at 110/9, falling 33 runs short of the required total.

Bangladesh has more concerns after their defeat in the first warm-up game, especially considering they were whitewashed by Australia and India earlier this year. Winless in their last three World Cup campaigns, Bangladesh will be eager to turn things around and break their losing streak, but they face tough competition in Group B from England, South Africa, Scotland, and the West Indies.

Following an early collapse that saw Pakistan 4 down for just 33 runs inside the first 7 overs, Muneeba Ali and Omaima Sohail orchestrated a recovery that kept Pakistan in the 1st warmup. Late cameos from skipper Fatima Sana (20* off 14 balls) and Iram Javed (12* off 9 balls) helped elevate their total to 132. In response, Scotland’s openers anchored the innings effectively, taking charge of the chase. Despite Nashra Sandhu (1/18 off 4 overs) and Diana Baig (0/16 off 3 overs) maintaining economical figures, the rest of the Pakistan’s bowlers struggled, resulting in an 8-wicket defeat.

For Pakistan, their loss to Scotland is a hard pill to swallow, but it wasn’t surprising. The competition is only set to intensify as they find themselves in a tough Group A alongside heavyweights India, Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. While a win may seem unlikely, it remains to be seen whether they can spring a surprise and put up a fight during the World Cup games.

While Bangladesh has historically struggled against Pakistan, with only 4 wins from 22 matches, including two abandoned games, they have secured wins in 3 of their last 4 games, promising a competitive match. A win in this game or a closely contested battle could boost the morale of both teams as they head into the World Cup.
