Brisbane Heat has secured the services of keeper-batter Georgia Redmayne, who has extended her contract for another season, committing to both Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 10 and 11.
Redmayne, who has played 113 WBBL matches and scored 1502 runs in 56 matches for the Heat, expressed her excitement sharing, “I’m so excited to re-sign for the Heat. I think I’ve had four years here now, and they’ve been my four favourite years of the Big Bash. So yeah, super stoked to be back around the team.”
She also mentioned the thrill of playing a stand-alone game at the Gabba against the Adelaide Strikers, describing it as a grand final rematch. Quoting Redmayne, “Playing a stand-alone game at the Gabba, it’s really exciting. Hopefully, we can get a really good crowd on a Saturday night in Brisbane. We’re playing the Adelaide Strikers, so we know it’d be a good quality match, the grand final.”
Redmayne, who most recently played for the victorious London Spirit in The Hundred and the Barbados Royals in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League, will return to action on home soil next week with the Queensland Fire in the Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL).
Redmayne has had a notable WBBL career, having played 113 matches and scored 1,502 runs at an average of 27.59. Her highest score stands at 97 runs, and she has achieved seven half-centuries, showcasing her batting prowess. Additionally, she has recorded 40 catches and 26 stumpings as of the end of WBBL | 09.
Making her debut in the inaugural season with the Hobart Hurricanes, Redmayne played for them until the 4th edition before moving to the Perth Scorchers for the following season.
Since joining the Brisbane Heat in the 6th edition, she has quickly established herself as a key player, significantly contributing to the team’s success and helping them reach the finals in multiple seasons. Her notable performances, including her highest innings of 97 runs, highlight her skills as both a batter and a wicketkeeper, underscoring her impact on the team’s offensive and defensive strategies.
The Brisbane Heat will feature in the curtain raiser, at the Adelaide Oval, on October 27, and will host three home WBBL games at Allan Border Field this season, facing off against the Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, and Sydney Sixers.
