Brief History of Turkey Women’s National Cricket Team
The Turkey national women’s cricket team represents Turkey in international women’s cricket matches.
In April 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members, including Turkey. Consequently, all Twenty20 matches involving Turkey and other ICC members after 1 July 2018 hold WT20I status.
Historical highlights – Turkey Women’s National Cricket Team
Although the Turkey women’s team was scheduled to debut at the 2021 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, they faced a setback. In August 2021, they had to withdraw from the tournament due to the Turkish Sports Ministry not granting approval for their travel.
Their debut finally took place against Sweden at FB Playing Fields, St Clement, on 29 May 2023. Turkey struggled with the bat, posting just 51/8 in their 20 overs. None of their batters could score big, with Sweden’s bowlers maintaining a tight grip throughout the innings. Sweden’s opening pair, Kanchan Rana and Signe Lundell, chased down the target comfortably, reaching 52/0 in just 7 overs.

2023 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Europe Qualifier:
Turkey made their first appearance during this tournament, marking the introduction of a second division, and expanding the qualification pathway for women’s cricket in Europe. Unfortunately, Turkey couldn’t secure any victories in the second division, finishing last out of six teams and thus unable to progress further.
