Players to watch out:
Katie Mack
The 30-year-old opening batter in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Australia’s premier T20 league, has amassed 2,468 runs from 119 outings, at an average of 25.71 and a strike rate of 104.66, with the highest score of 89. Katie managed a string of starts in her recent campaign in England’s domestic season, and in this series opener, she scored a solid 39. Given her form, she can be counted on for another good score.
Sophie Day
The 25-year-old left-arm off-spinner has taken 53 wickets from 53 outings in the WBBL, at an average of 18.06 and an economy rate of 6.90. Sophie was a standout last domestic season, including in the WBBL, where she took 27 wickets from 14 outings, with career-best figures of 5/25. Carrying the momentum into this domestic season, she returned figures of 1/19 (4) in the opener and can be banked upon for breakthroughs.
Tanuja Kanwar
The 26-year-old left-arm off-spinner, in the 2023-24 Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, bagged 10 wickets from 7 outings at an average of 9.30 and an economy rate of 3.87. In India’s premier T20 competition, the Women’s Premier League, Tanuja further impressed with 10 wickets from 8 games and a highest score of 28. In this series opener, she recorded figures of 22(20) and 0/27 (4) and should be backed to capitalize on this form.
Minnu Mani
The 23-year-old off-spinner struck 7 wickets from 8 games in the 2023-24 Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, maintaining an economy rate of 5.37. In the 2024 WPL, she took 3 wickets from 4 outings and wasn’t required much with the bat, but she can be a handy contributor. Minnu hasn’t had the best of starts to this campaign, returning figures of 0/21 (3), and will hopefully rediscover her best form with both bat and ball during this series.
