Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s whirlwind century thrashes Malaysia to a demoralizing defeat.

The Indian team led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur defeated the United Arab Emirates led by skipper Esha Oza by 78 runs in the 5th match of the tournament. On the other hand, Pakistan led by skipper Nida Dar defeated Nepal led by skipper Indu Barma by nine wickets in the 6th match of the tournament.
The hosts Sri Lanka led by skipper Chamari Athapaththu were all set to face Malaysia led by skipper Winifred Duraisingam in the 7th match of the tournament. The Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu won the toss and opted to bat first. Sri Lanka got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of their opening batter Vishmi Gunaratne in the 2nd over of the innings. She was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant half-century against Bangladesh.

Wicket-keeper batter Anushka Sanjeewani joined skipper Chamari Athapaththu at the crease and the duo stitched another massive 115-run partnership for the 3rd wicket, taking their side past the 180-run mark. The Malaysian skipper Winifred Duraisingam struck twice in the final over of the innings to give momentum to Malaysia going into the innings break.
