Rwanda crowned champions of the BCA Kalahari Women’s T20 International tournament by defeating Botswana in the final by 8 wickets.
Rwanda women’s team led by skipper Flora Irakoze participated in a BCA Kalahari Women’s T20 International tournament in Botswana. A total of four teams namely Lesotho, Mozambique, Botswana and Rwanda participated in the tournament.
Rwanda Women’s team managed to stay unbeaten throughout the tournament with 12 points from 6 games. They were crowned as the champions of the BCA Kalahari Women’s T20 Tournament, as they defeated the hosts Botswana in the final of the tournament by eight wickets and 30 balls to spare. The Rwanda skipper Flora Irakoze won the toss and opted to field first in the final.
After being inserted to bat first, Botswana were restricted to 70/5 in their quota of overs. Pako Matosane (43 off 65 balls) was the top performer of her side with the bat as she stayed unbeaten throughout the innings. Rosette Shimwamana (4-0-12-2), Henriette Ishimwe (4-0-11-1), and Marie Bimenyimana (4-0-13-1) were the top performers with the ball for Rwanda. Chasing a target of 72, Rwanda managed to chase down the target with five overs to spare.
Marie Bimenyimana (24 off 47 balls), and Clarisse Uwase (19 off 18 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Rwanda. Goabilwe Matome (4-0-14-1) and Pako Mapotsane (2-0-20-1) were the top performers with the ball for Botswana. Marie Bimenyimana was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant all-round performance, scoring (24 off 47 balls) with the bat and returning with match figures (4-0-13-1) with the ball.
The hosts Botswana finished 2nd on the points table with eight points from six games. Both of their defeats in the tournament came against Rwanda. Mozambique finished 3rd with four points from six games. Their couple of victories came against Lesotho. Lesotho finished at the bottom of the points table as they remained winless throughout the tournament.
