Sessay Emeralds have reached the finals of the Kia Summer Smash to be played at Kia Oval on 20th September 2019 by winning the Northern Festival at St. Peter’s School, New York, England.
Sessay broke several Kia Summer Smash records en route their successful run in the competition. They registered the highest team total of 132 runs without losing any wicket in their opening encounter against Brooksbottom. Jess Watson made the highest individual score of 69 as her unbeaten opening partnership with Adrianna Darlow became the highest partnership in the competition’s history.
Sessay team went on to break their own record of highest team total in the next match when they put up a total of 138 for two in the allotted ten overs.
Hailing the team’s performance, Watson, who is one of the most senior members of the squad, said, “I don’t think we expected to put in scores like that but we just tried to score off every ball. That was our philosophy and it paid off.”
Excited about making it to the finals, she said, “It will be really exciting for the whole squad to play at the Kia Oval. They work really hard as a team and it will be a reward for that work over the last few years.”
