Danielle Wyatt’s fan travels from Mumbai to Bangalore to watch her play for UP Warriorz

The second edition of the Women’s Premier League kicked off on the 23rd of February at the Chinnaswamy stadium. With the first leg of the tournament scheduled in Bangalore, the Chinnaswamy will play host for the games. The UP Warriorz finished third in the last edition of the coveted tournament and will be hoping to go at least one better this time around. During the team season opener, Female Cricket spotted a Danielle Wyatt fan in the stands who traveled all the way from Mumbai to Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium solely to witness Wyatt’s performance in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

UP Warriorz Wyatt expressed her joy at the enthusiastic support she received from fans in India during the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 and in particular, the boy from Mumbai, his heartfelt gesture stood out. Displaying a banner that declared, “I’m here from Mumbai just to see Wyatt,” the dedicated fan’s gesture left Danielle Wyatt humbled. She took to social media and responded to the Female Cricket post, acknowledging the fan’s effort, stating, “What a guy!”

In the inaugural edition of the WPL, Wyatt did not secure a buyer, but in the ongoing season, she was successfully acquired by the UP Warriorz, captained by Alyssa Healy. Wyatt, known for her prowess in the top order and middle order, stands as a valuable option alongside Chamari Athapaththu.

In 151 T20I games for the English side, Danni Wyatt has been a consistent contributor for the national side. She has scored 2602 runs at a strike rate of 127.23. Her numbers include 2 centuries and 13 fifties in the format at the international level.

Despite not getting a chance to play against the Challengers, as Healy opted for young Vrinda Dinesh to open the batting, Wyatt remains a crucial asset for the Warriorz. The team’s other three foreign players include Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Ecclestone, and Grace Harris.

UP Warriors came in second in a nail-biting finish against the home team Royal Challengers Bangalore, as they faced a 2-run defeat in their tournament opener. The UP Warriorz will be hoping to turn things around quickly and get their first win of the tournament against the Delhi Capitals in their second game of the tournament.
