Tanzania has never faced Japan, Nepal, or Hong Kong in a Twenty20 International (T20I) before. While both Nepal and Japan have played T20Is against Hong Kong, they are set to face each other for the first time. Hosts Hong Kong, on the other hand, are familiar opponents, having previously played against Nepal and Japan.

Format: Hong Kong Women’s Quadrangular Series 2023

The Quadrangular series will follow the round-robin format, where all four teams will compete against each other once in league games. After the league stage, the two top seeds will advance to the Final, while the remaining two teams will compete in the 3rd place playoff.

The team faced a setback at the Games, losing its only contest to Malaysia and falling short of advancing to the knockouts. In the lead-up to this series, national team players participated in the Women’s All Stars T20 series. With the likes of Kary Chan, Betty Chan, Alison Siu, Maryam Bibi, and Natasha Miles, the squad of 14 promises to be highly competitive.

Tanzania’s most recent international outing dates back to April 2023, to the abandoned Final of the Victoria series. However, the national side’s players actively participated in the recently concluded inaugural Tanzania Women’s T20 Premier League. With top-ranked national players dominating the competition, not a lot of local talent has come through just yet. Looking ahead, as the tournament progresses, a few notable names from the inaugural edition could make a strong case for themselves.

This series holds great significance for Tanzania, especially with their upcoming participation in the ICC Africa Division 1 Qualifier in December. The team is eyeing a coveted slot in the Global Qualifier for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Boasting a mix of exciting young talent and seasoned players in red-hot form, including the likes of Fatuma Kibasu, Hudaa Omary, Neema Pius, Pierce Zakayo, Mwanamvua Ushanga, and Saum Mtae, Tanzania is a well-rounded and formidable side.

Nepal Women’s Cricket Team

In their most recent outing in September 2023, Nepal exited the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier in the Semi-Final. Nepal has made a significant change ahead of the Quadrangular series by appointing the promising 26-year-old all-rounder Indu Barma as the captain, succeeding the 29-year-old Rubina Chhetry after her impressive 11-year stint in the role that contributed to the team’s global recognition. With the experience of seasoned campaigners like Indu Barma, Rubina Chhetri, and Sita Rana Magar, the team has consistently punched above its weight.
