Japan announces its squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier

The Road to the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh continues through a series of qualifiers that kickstarted with the Europe Division 2 Qualifier that commenced on 29 May 2023. France and Italy were the two teams to qualify for the Division 1 qualifiers in Spain.

The caravan for the qualifiers of the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh now moves on to the East Asia Pacific qualifiers. A total number of seven teams namely Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Samoa, and Vanuatu will be participating in the tournament and it will be hosted by Vanuatu. The tournament will commence on 1st September and will conclude on 8th September 2023.

Japan Women’s cricket team made their debut at the international level on 21st July 2003 in an ODI against Pakistan. They made their T20I debut against Indonesia on 6th May 2019. They had an impressive run in the Women’s East Asia Cup, where they managed to win three out of the four games.

They were recently involved in the Women’s T20 East Asia Cup in China in May 2023, where they just managed to win a solitary game against the hosts China. They will now participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier.

The Japanese women would be looking to improve their performance and try to go out full throttle in the qualifiers in their bid to seal their spot for the next stage in their journey to fulfill their World Cup dream.
