The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has recently launched a Talent Scout Program for women to discover new talents in the sport. The program will be run by the Talent Scout Wing (TSW) and will involve former first-class cricketers and coaches. The TSW will identify potential talent across Tamil Nadu in trials that are set to begin on May 13.
The TNCA has created four groups, each comprising four members, who will cover all 37 districts in Tamil Nadu. Once the TSW has identified the potential talent pool, they will be called to training camps that will take place throughout the year. According to Sudha Shah, the chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee, any player above the age of 13 can attend the trials. While a maximum of 22 players will be selected from each district, there is no cap on the total number of players who can be selected.

The shortlisted players will undergo training camps at the respective venues, and based on the feedback provided by coaches, an inter-district tournament will be held after two years. Approximately 20-25 players from the 37 districts will be selected to train at the TNCA Academy in Chennai. These players will also be pooled together with other cricketers competing in the Freyer Cup.
As the talent pool is expected to increase, the TNCA has decided to increase the number of participating teams in the Freyer Cup from 6 to 7 or 8. The Freyer Cup will be held for T20s and 50-overs, and the selected players will be given the opportunity to participate in this event.
The TNCA has also revealed its plans to launch the women’s version of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, which is a franchise-model T20 League that has been highly successful. The Talent Scout Program will take place at various locations across Tamil Nadu on May 13, May 14, May 17, May 20, and May 21. The program aims to provide opportunities for talented female cricketers to showcase their skills and potentially become part of the national team.
This initiative is an excellent opportunity for young women to showcase their talent and get a chance to be part of the TNCA’s talent pool. With the increasing focus on women’s cricket globally, the TNCA’s Talent Scout Program for women is a significant step in the right direction, providing equal opportunities to women in the field of sports.
