Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has been making commendable efforts towards the promotion of women’s cricket in recent years. The organization has been organizing various competitions to encourage women’s cricket and help it gain momentum. One such initiative is the recently launched under-23 District cricket tournament exclusively for women.
The tournament began last week, and what makes it noteworthy is the active participation from the Jaffna district, where five teams are competing. This move is expected to help in discovering fresh talent and nurturing them to become future cricketing stars. To further boost the growth of the sport, SLC has also distributed cricket equipment to several schools.
It is encouraging to note that the representation of both men’s and women’s teams from outstation regions has been on the rise, and SLC has invested considerably in outstation cricket. These measures will undoubtedly help in identifying and developing cricketing talent from all parts of the country, making Sri Lanka a force to reckon with in the world of cricket.
Overall, SLC’s efforts to promote women’s cricket and develop new talent are commendable, and it is heartening to see the organization take such initiatives. The under-23 District cricket tournament is just the beginning, and one can expect more such events in the future to further boost the growth of women’s cricket in Sri Lanka.
