Tammy Beaumont completes 100 ODI Matches for England

England’s ongoing home series against India saw them win the T20I series 2-1, but in the extended, ODI format, have massively been outplayed in a couple of games of the 3-match series as it is the Indian side who with a 2-0 lead enter the Lord’s for the final, 3rd ODI.

Though the series has been a hard one for the English on the 22-yards, there have been a few very proud and memorable events taking place just close to the boundary as the 1st ODI witnessed Alice Capsey mark her debut and Sophie Ecclestone don her 50th cap, the 2nd ODI saw Freya Kemp debut and the final, 3rd ODI at Lord’s scripted special memories for Tammy Beaumont as she joins the 100-ODI club.

Tamsin Tilley Beaumont or say Tammy Beaumont, early in 2007, made her debut for Kent and batting at no.5 scored 13*. Later that summer, she received a call-up to be a part of the England Development Squad side for the European Championship where in two games against Netherlands and Ireland, she scored 7 and 8 runs respectively.

Tammy Beaumont continued to make regular appearances for Kent through the 2008 and 2009 seasons and then got to her maiden century (136 off 144) in August 2009 to help set up a 184-run victory for Kent. She then received a call up to the national squad in the following month to tour the West Indies, as Sarah Taylor opted out of the series. Beaumont made her international debut in the first ODI of the tour, at Basseterre, on the 4th of November 2009 scored an unbeaten 14*(27) batting with the tail in the side’s 40-run defeat to the hosts.

In absence of Sarah Taylor, Tammy Beaumont was roped in the side as a wicketkeeper and was asked to bat with the tail at no.7 or at times even lower as no.10 and 11. She then got a few impressive unbeaten stays lower down the order, was promoted to opening the innings in 2012 and then the best of Beaumont was on display. The maturing batter after starts of 27, 31, and 44, during the sides Pakistan series in 2016 got underway with an impressive 70 that she backed with a couple of back-to-back centuries.

In the 2nd ODI, Tammy Beaumont got to her maiden ODI ton with a score of 104 and in the following, 3rd ODI, displayed a stunning 168*. Fast forward to 2022, the 31-year-old now has been a regular feature in the side and a part of the 100-ODI players club. She’s got to 3417 runs in 91 innings at an average of 41.67, a strike rate of 72.93 and has got as many as 17 half-centuries and 9 centuries to her name in the format alone.

To pick the best of Beaumont, there’s maybe not a better tournament or series than the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup. In the event, she along with Sarah Taylor set the record for the highest 2nd wicket partnership of 275 runs in the history of the game and the same is also the highest partnership for any wicket in Women’s World Cup history.

During the same World Cup, she along with Natalie Sciver set the record for the highest 4th wicket partnership of 170 runs in Women’s Cricket World Cup history. Tammy Beaumont was a part of the winning women’s team at the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup and was voted player of the tournament after finishing with a total of 410 runs. Her contribution to England’s success was recognized by the award of an MBE in the Queen’s 2018 New Year Honours list, so that has got to be one on the top shelf.
