In view of the Women’s IPL, DDCA (Delhi & District Cricket Association) is planning to start a women’s league this year. Such a league will not only help the players to showcase their talent but also help them to get recognized. Recently, Delhi included a multi-day format tournament for women in their calendar and now the association has announced a women’s league. These developments show that the DDCA is serious about promoting and growing women’s cricket. Delhi has produced some of the best cricketers of India, including Jaya Sharma, Anjum Chopra, Reema Malhotra, among many. In recent times, players like Priya Punia and Simran Dil Bahadur from Delhi have represented India. The legacy of former cricketers has been rightfully carried forward by the upcoming crop of players. DDCA President Rohan Jaitley shared that at present there are 165 women cricketers registered in DDCA across all age groups.

By having more and more tournaments, DDCA can ensure that their women cricketers are busy across the year. Apart from being proactive in conducting matches and introducing new tournaments, the DDCA has maintained a proper database of players’ performances of different age groups. The upcoming women’s league, known as the Challenger Trophy, will be a two-day affair and see 12 teams participating. The players will be selected by the selectors.
