Hayley Matthews Record Career Best ODI Bowling Figures in World Cup

Hayley Matthews has had an excellent tournament so far in the world cup both with bat and ball. She has scored 225 runs and has picked 10 wickets in 5 matches. On Friday, Matthews picked her best bowling figures against Bangladesh with 4 for 15 in 10 overs.

West Indies were restricted to just 140 in their 50 overs as they suffered their 3rd straight batting collapse. Matthews got out for 18 and Campbell stood for the rest of the innings scoring an unbeaten 53 and dragging West Indies to 140 in 50 overs.

Bangladesh who have had good starts l this world cup lost Shamima Sultana for a duck. Sharmin Akter and Fargana Hoque tried to stitch a partnership that didn’t last long. Hayley Matthews dismissed both the openers and gave a great start for West Indies in defending the low total. Afy Fletcher chipped in some crucial wickets putting a break for Bangladesh run flow. Hayley Matthews came back and immediately took 2 wickets in a single over putting Bangladesh in big trouble at 85 for 7. Bangladesh ultimately lost the match by 4 runs and West Indies got their 3rd victory in the tournament.

Hayley Matthews who has taken 78 wickets in 61 ODIs has taken 3 four-wicket hauls in her career with today’s 4 for 15 being the best of the 3. She is a huge party of the West Indies unit and her performance both with bat and ball will result in West Indies making it to the semi-finals.

West have won 3 of their 5 matches. They are left with 2 more matches against a winless Pakistan and unbeaten South Africa. They must at least win one of the 2 matches in order to fancy their chances to the semi-finals. Let’s see how will the team perform in those two.
