It’s time for two of the favorite teams of the 2022 World Cup – India and Australia to compete against each other and get the 2 points to their account.

Eden Park, Auckland will host its first match of this year’s tournament on Saturday, March 19 and it can’t get better than India taking on Australia in Match No. 18 starting 6:30 AM (IST) onwards.

Let’s have a glimpse of the previous World Cup matches between the two-:

1. 1978 Women’s World Cup (January 8)

Playing the 4th match of their maiden ODI World Cup, India managed to restrict Australia at 150/8 with each of the 6 bowlers getting at least a wicket. However, the strong Australian bowling unit took the game away from the women in blue, bowling them out for just 79.

2. 1982 Women’s World Cup (January 10)

Jill Kennare’s knock of 98 alongside Denise Emerson’s 77 guided Australia to a total of 227 with the loss of 6 wickets, 3 of which being run-outs while the remaining 3 were taken by Sharmila Chakraborty. However, yet again India wasn’t able to stand firm against the Aussies bowling attack and handed Australia a 153 runs victory.

3. 1982 Women’s World Cup (January 26)

Setting a target of 108 after being asked to bat first, team India displayed a decent performance in the match with the bowlers trying their level best to bowl out Australia but weren’t able to get the last 4 wickets as Australia won the match with 43 balls to spare.

4. 1982 Women’s World Cup (February 4)

Jill Kennare’s 69 and then Captain Sharon Tredrea’s captain 55* helped Australia aggregate 193/5 in their 60 overs. A target India fell short of by 40 runs with Anjali Pendharker’s 47 being the highest for the women in blue while Australia’s Raelee Thompson’s 3 wicket haul being the best figure of the match with the ball.

5. 1993 Women’s World Cup (July 21)

Choosing to bat first, India was crushed down at 108 with both Karen Brown and Sharyn Bow getting a 3-wicket haul each and Lee-Anne Hunter bowling an appreciable 4 overs conceding just 6 runs. It was an easy chase for Australia who reached the target with 7 wickets and 129 balls to spare.

6. 1997 Women’s World Cup (December 24)

Playing the Semi-Finals of the 1997 World Cup and that too in their National Capital, India chose to bowl and displayed an applaudable performance with it restricting Australia at 123/7. However, Chanderkanta Kaul’s 48 during the team’s chase went in vain as they failed to make it to the Finals, losing by 19 runs.

7. 2000 Women’s World Cup (December 6)

Lisa Keightley’s 74 and Karen Rolton’s 61 guided Australia to a good total of 223/5 in their 50 overs and the performance by their bowlers gave them a 51 runs win over India who saw Anjum Chopra’s 47 being their highest individual score in the match.

8. 2005 Women’s World Cup (April 10)

Karen Rolton’s unbeaten 107 (128), as well as Lisa Sthalekar’s 55 (75), guided Australia to another 200+ total, setting a target of 216. Yet another great display by their bowling unit, saw India tumble down 99 runs short of the target. Rolton was adjudged as the Player of the Match.

9. 2009 Women’s World Cup (March 14)

A complete team performance from team India gave them their 1st ever ODI World Cup win against Australia. The stars with the bat who contributed to the big total of 234/5 being Anjum Chopra’s Player of the match 76, Mithali Raj’s 44, Anagha Deshpande’s 45, and 8 balls unbeaten 19 from Harmanpreet Kaur. India won the match by 16 runs.

10. 2009 Women’s World Cup (March 21)

During the 3rd Place Playoff of the 2009 World Cup, Rumeli Dhar’s all-round performance, 24* (27) with the bat and 2/24 with the ball saw India winning the match by 3 wickets and 13 balls to spare (D/L Method). Dhar was adjudged as the player of the match.

11. 2017 Women’s World Cup (July 12)

In a high-scoring game, opener Punam Raut’s 106 and Skipper Mithali Raj’s 69 helped India post a target of 227 for Australia. However, it wasn’t an up-to-mark performance by the Indian bowlers who managed to take just 2 wickets with Australia achieving the target with 29 balls to spare. Australia’s Captain Meg Lanning was adjudged as the Player of the Match for her unbeaten 76 (88).

12. 2017 Women’s World Cup (July 20)

Harmanpreet Kaur’s record-breaking unbeaten 171 off just 115 deliveries gave a major upset to Australia and brought a 36 runs victory for the women in blue in the Semi-Final of the 2017 World Cup. In the high-scoring game, India posted 281/4 before the bowlers made their road to the Finals easy bowling out Australia at 245.
