Past Records between India and Pakistan Women in ODIs

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 is underway, and the excitement is building up for the blockbuster match this weekend. The arch-rivals India and Pakistan will start their 2022 World Cup campaign at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui in Tauranga this Sunday, March 6.

 

 

Legendary captains Mithali Raj and Bismah Maroof will lead their respective sides in what is considered as one of the biggest cricket matches across the border as stated by Maroof in an interview with PTI last month.

“Pakistan vs India is indeed a great stage for any player to establish her credentials, but at the end of the day, it is a cricket match that has to be won by executing the basics right and keeping things simple,”

“This match is a great opportunity to inspire millions of girls in Pakistan and India to take up this sport as a profession. It is the biggest rivalry and attracts innumerable eyeballs.”

1. Women’s Asia Cup 2005-06 (December 30, 2005)

The 2005 Asia Cup in Pakistan marked the first-ever ODI match between India and Pakistan women. The massive 193 runs win for India saw former cricketer Jaya Sharma smashing 138 and Neetu David’s 3 wickets for 7 runs and 5 maidens in 7.4 overs bowling out Pakistan for 96.

2. Women’s Asia Cup 2005-06 (January 2, 2006)

A few days after their first ODI against each other, India went on to register their 2nd victory in a low-scoring game. Devika Palshikar’s 3 wickets for 12 runs and 4 maidens in 10 overs helped India tumble down Pakistan for just 94 and win the game easily by 10 wickets with 195 balls to spare.

3. Women’s Asia Cup 2006 (December 13, 2006)

Later that year, in the 2006 edition of the Asia Cup, the women in blue got 80 runs victory restricting Pakistan to 159/6. The stars of the match were Rumeli Dhar’s 53, Thirush Kamini’s 3 wicket haul, and a player of the match all-around performance by Amita Sharma- 45* (47) & 1/18.

4. Women’s Asia Cup 2006 (December 19. 2006)

Sunetra Paranjpe’s 52 and Rajeshwari Goyal’s 2 wickets for 12 runs and 5 maidens helped India put a score of 244 and beat Pakistan by 103 runs in their 2nd meeting of the 2006 Asia Cup.

5. Women’s Asia Cup (May 5, 2008)

Meeting after around 2 years, India registered a massive 182 runs win restricting Pakistan at 93/9 in their chase of 275/7. Rumeli Dhar was adjudged as the player of the match for her great knock of unbeaten 92 off 94 balls along with a wicket conceding 20 runs with the ball.

6. Women’s Asia Cup (May 9, 2008)

Recording their 2nd largest win to date, India defeated Pakistan by 207 runs in their 2nd meeting of the 2008 Asia Cup. The top performers with the bat being 74 by Jaya Sharma, unbeaten 62 and 51 by Skipper Mithali Raj and Rumeli Dhar respectively while 3 wickets haul each for Snehal Pradhan and Neetu David was the best with the ball.

7. ICC Women’s World Cup (March 7, 2009)

Chasing a target of just 58, India recorded their largest victory in terms of balls remaining, getting to the total with 240 balls to spare. For her fantastic spell with the ball, taking 3 wickets in 8 overs conceding just 7 runs and 5 maidens, Rumeli Dhar was adjudged as the player of the match.

8. ICC Women’s World Cup (February 7, 2013)

Playing against each other after 4 years, India’s Captain Mithali Raj led the team with a player of the match performance, a brilliant knock of unbeaten 103 reaching the target of 193 with 24 balls to spare. For Pakistan, it was Nida Dar’s 68* and Nain Abidi’s 58 that helped the team set a defendable total.

9. ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers (February 19, 2017)

On their mission to qualify for the 2017 World Cup, India elected to field first and restricted Pakistan to 67. Ekta Bisht’s brilliance recording her best ODI spell, taking 5 wickets giving away just 8 runs did the job for team India.

10. ICC Women’s World Cup (July 2, 2017)

Following her applaudable spell of 5/8 in the qualifiers, Ekta Bisht recorded yet another brilliant figure during the big tournament. She took 5 wickets conceding just 18 runs in a chase that could have easily been achieved by Pakistan, the target of 170 but India successfully bowled them out for 74.
