The final saw the top 2 teams of the league face off. Otago Sparks came out to bat first in the final of the New Zealand Domestic competition. Captain Kate Ebrahim opened the batting and scored an excellent 92. She stitched a great 2nd wicket partnership of 103 runs with Caitlin Blakely who scored a fine half-century and was dismissed for 57. The middle order of the Sparks didn’t step up and wickets continued to fall. Kate Ebrahim stood at one end and dragged the score of the Sparks to 220 in 50 overs. Wellington’s Right-arm pacer Kate Chandler and Off Spinner Xara Jetly took 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

The Wellington Blaze were bundled out for 82 by the Otago Sparks bowling unit. Only 3 of the 11 players reached double figures. Off Spinner, Eden Carson had a magical spell as she took 5 for 17. Emma Black took 3 for 13 resulting in Otago Sparks having a landslide victory over Wellington Blaze. Thus, after losing all the 10 matches in the 2020/21 edition, Otago Sparks came back strong and have been crowned the champions of the Hallyburton Johnston Shield 2021/22 tournament.
