Fans Left Frustrated after Confusion over India South Africa Warm-Up Scorecard

The preparation for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 has been great as the teams participating in the tournament started their warm-up matches on Sunday, February 27th, 2022. But, the ICC media team had a chaotic start with the coverage of the ICC Women’s World Cup as the Scorecard of the India vs South Africa Warm-up match made a lot of noise on social media.

As the warm-up matches of the 2022 Women’s World Cup were not broadcasted Live on TV, many had to follow the ICC website for Live updates on the warm-up matches.

Around 11 AM IST, the ICC website announced that South Africa had defeated Team India by 4 wickets as they successfully chased the target of 245 set by team India. The Indian cricket fans were unhappy with team India losing in the warm-up. Even the social media of Cricket South Africa celebrated the victory with official posts on their Twitter handle.

Around 30 mins later, ICC updated the scorecard and announced that team India had defeated South Africa by 2 runs. Rajeshwari Gayakwad had successfully defended 9 runs in the final over. The scorecard had a lot of changes compared to the previous one. In the new scorecard, it was the young left-hand batter Yastika Bhatia who scored 58 runs and not wicketkeeper batter Taniya Bhatia. South Africa captain Sune Luus had scored 94 runs instead of 87 and Harmanpreet Kaur had scored 114 runs, not 103.

These glitches created confusion among the passionate cricket fans as to who had actually won. Later, the Indian opener Yastika Bhatia herself confirmed on Twitter that team India had won the match by 2 runs bringing all the confusion to end.

The cricket fans were unhappy with ICC in handling the situation. The passionate Indian Cricket fans were majorly upset with BCCI staying quite as the official BCCI social media were not posting the live scorecard nor live posting updates during the match. The social media started to buzz with memes and jokes towards BCCI, ICC for their lack of responsibility in covering the matches. Twitter was a hot boiler as many fans shared their opinions and concerns on the confusion created overall making it a chaotic atmosphere.
