“Chennai Super Kings is the Strongest IPL Team” : says England’s Kate Cross

For the last two days, everyone was hooked to their mobile phones or TV sets for the IPL 2022 auction. With 10 franchises in a tussle, 204 players were sold in the mega two-day auction in Bangalore.

IPL is the most popular league in the cricketing world, the league garners a lot of attention from everyone. England Women’s cricketer Kate Cross is no different. In a QnA conducted by Kate using the Twitter handle of England Cricket, in reply to a fan’s tweet where she was asked about her view on the strongest team in the IPL post the auctions.

She replied, “Has to be @ChennaiIPL” with a yellow heart emoticon.

Kate is an avid Chennai Super Kings fan. In a video on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel around five months back, Kate said that she’ll love to play for CSK whenever a Women’s IPL takes place. On her own Twitter account, she posted a picture of the auction along with the caption saying,” Can’t wait for the day there is a women’s one of these!”

The three-team Women’s T20 challenge has been held every year since 2018. Even this year the Women’s T20 challenge will take place simultaneously with the IPL play-offs. BCCI is planning to host a full-fledged Women’s IPL in 2023. Recently the board’s President Sourav Ganguly confirmed the certainty of WIPL happening next year.

Ganguly said, “We are at the level of formulation to have a full-fledged WIPL. It is certainly going to happen. I strongly believe that next year i.e., 2023 will be a very good time to start a full-fledged women’s IPL which will be as big and grand a success as men’s IPL.”

Australia has the Women’s Big Bash League; England has the Hundred its high time the Indian fans get to enjoy a full season of WIPL.

With plenty of time still left for this year’s Women T20 Challenge, the focus of the women’s cricket followers will be on the upcoming World Cup to be held in New Zealand from March 4- April 3.
