The 33rd match of the seventh edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) was played between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers at the WACA in Perth on Saturday.

Batting first, Hobart Hurricanes piled up 137-8 in 20 overs, riding on opening bat Rachael Priest’s (54 runs off 48 balls) stellar half century. The New Zealander plundered five boundaries and three sixes during her entertaining knock. The South African all-rounder Mignon du Preez also chipped in with a 20-ball 23, including two boundaries. For Perth Scorchers, Lilly Mills, Heather Graham and Alana King accounted for two wickets each, while Marizanne Kapp and Taneale Peschel struck with one wicket apiece.

In reply, Perth Scorchers fought hard, however, they lost the match by just two runs. Sri Lanka’s captain Chamari Athapaththu top scored with 33 runs off 31 balls, including five boundaries. Perth Scorchers’ captain Sophie Devine was the other major contributor with the bat as she scored a blistering 25 off just 15 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes. For Hobart Hurricanes, Belinda Vakarewa, Molly Strano and Nicola Carey picked up two wickets apiece. Ruth Johnston and Amy Smith claimed one wicket each.
