All you need to know about the little illustrations on the collars of Ashes shirts of the southern stars

You must be wondering about the little illustrations visible on the collars of Ashes shirts of southern stars when they played against arch rivals, England Women in the sole Test of Women’s Ashes. Well, this is a new addition to the shirts of Australia’s Ashes players and the special touch is absolutely priceless for the Aussie players.

The small piece featured on the collar of the players’ shirts is a mark of Indigenous artwork which symbolizes the recent growth of indigenous game. Walkabout Wickets was painted by Indigenous artist Fiona Clarke ahead of the 2016 Boxing Day Test to commemorate the anniversary of an iconic match featuring an Aboriginal XI at the MCG 150 years earlier.

Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie said, “It may be a small gesture, but it’s quite significant”. “Everyone talks about the great work Cricket Australia has done regarding inclusiveness with the women’s game, but also the recognition of Indigenous cricket has been great. Recognizing that in any small way is a great step forward”, he further added.
