The first women’s cricket match will be played in West Indies after the duration of 19 months, due to the impact of the COVID-19 virus, on June 30 as Pakistan will tour the Caribbean. The last time an international match was played in West Indies was on 6 November 2019 when India toured for a 3 Match Series.
The home team will host the Pakistan National side for a white ball contest which includes, 5 One-day Internationals and 3 T20 Internationals.
This will be an important series for both the teams as for both the teams, West Indies and Pakistan, their next big challenge is the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers which are scheduled to take place this December for one of the three remaining spots to secure a seat in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 due January 2022 in New Zealand.
The Cricket West Indies Director, Jimmy Adams, had a lot to say about the tour, “This is a very significant home tour for our women and we are delighted that our counterparts at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have worked with us to arrange these two series despite all the challenges we face with COVID-19.”
“West Indies continues to invest in our international Women’s program by hosting extended High-Performance camps between tours, two of which have already been held this year.”
“The series is also an important part of our preparation for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in December. Our goal post this Pakistan series, is to have our squad play against more international opposition and take part in our Regional Tournament before heading to the Qualifiers in Sri Lanka at the end of the year,” added Adams.
The West Indies women were last seen in the brown jersey in November 2019 when they played a limited-over series against India in India. They lost the series by 5-0.
