Who is 18-year old Aussie quick Darcie Brown who bowls at 116 km/h ?

Hailing from a family that boasts of cricketers, Darcie Brown, as expected, took up cricket and made her way into the national side in no time. Her father, mother, and two elder brothers have played Grade A cricket and Darcie, who is the youngest member in the Brown family followed their footsteps and did not turn out to be an anomaly.

Brown was selected for the Under 19 Australian side at just 15 years of age and traveled to New Zealand to play a series against the New Zealand development squad. In addition to this, on the back of some impressive performances in Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) and Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) playing for Adelaide Strikers and South Australian Scorpions respectively, the 18-year old from Kapunda, a town in South Australia, made her debut for Australia in March this year against New Zealand. She featured in one ODI and one T20I in that series and has already looked promising.

In October 2019, she became the youngest player, both male, and female, to be signed by the Adelaide Strikers. She was just 16 years old then when she was signed up for the Strikers in season five of WBBL. Though she did not get a chance to play that season, she had a wonderful outing in the next edition. In WBBL season six, she threatened the best of the batters in the world with her raw pace and lethal bounce. For her stellar performance in the tournament, she bagged the WBBL|06 Rebel Young Gun award for being the tournament’s best player under 21.

Brown has the reputation of being the fastest female bowler in the state, clocking up speeds of up to 116 km/h (72 mph). She is also capable of bowling at above 120kph and is seen as part of Australia’s pace battery for the long-term. Her ability to bowl quick was spotted when she was in her early teens.
