First ever day-night match held in Uttarakhand for female cricketers

In what came as a historic moment for women’s cricket in India, the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) held the first-ever day-night match of a BCCI recognized tournament at the Tanush Cricket Academy in Dehradun on Monday 1st February 2021.

 

 

The CAU organized the Hansa Dhanai T20 Women’s Challenger Cup with strict safety protocols in place. The finals of the tournament, between CAU Red and CAU Blue, was the state’s first official day-night women’s cricket match. The tournament which was held from January 23 to February 1 saw Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya attend the grand finale as the chief guest.

In the finals, CAU Blue had to defend the low score of 103 which they could not manage to do as the CAU Red coasted towards the target and won the match by eight wickets with 11 balls to spare. Anju Tomar, who won the Player of the Match award, took a wicket before scoring an unbeaten 38.

In an interview to Times of India, Mahim Verma, secretary of CAU said, “The tournament was organized to give a boost to women’s cricket in Uttarakhand. It is one of our flagship projects and we intend to create proper avenues for the state’s female cricketers.”
