The times have, surely, changed. Issy Wong is the new name. She hails from the English Soil and may as well be the frontline pacer of the English side in time to come. Issy has been making news around the cricketing circles with her pace and accuracy. It is interesting to note that, at the time of this article’s publishing, she is just 18 years and 112 days old.

From her KSL start in the year 2019, she has been a common feature in the English cricketing circle. Her instincts to attack as a pacer were revealed in her first wicket in KSL. It was off the fierce short one on 28th August 2019. Coming to recent times, Isabelle Eleanor Chih Ming Wong has not failed to make a name for her in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

In the North Group match held in Birmingham, she took three important wickets for her side. Keeping her hobby of getting success at the early stages, she got the stump flying on the very first ball. Laura Marshall got her middle stump dislodged on the first delivery of the match. Sparks won the match on the back of Wong’s wonder and a well-timed chase by Marie Kelly.

It is interesting to see that young faces have been playing consecutively and consistently on the professional level. Wong was heartening to hear after the match as well. Her statements indicated the maturity that she has attained at this age. She said, “We went into today with a plan, ready to come back from a hard loss on Saturday, it was nice for it all to come together”.

These words from a teenager highlight the temperament that she has earned in her short career. She was happy for her side and not only for individual performance. Importantly, she believed that all the players played their part. The degree of understanding in Issy is astonishing and heartening at the same time.

It will be safe to say that English cricket will soon see an international kit with the name of Issy Wong on it. For women’s cricket, individuals like Issy are blessing as their brilliance takes the game a step farther.
