The outbreak of novel coronavirus has impacted sporting events throughout the globe. Medical professionals and researchers have stressed extensively on the importance of reducing transmission in communities. This, they say, can only be achieved through physical distancing. Hence, cricket matches that were enjoyed by thousands of fans in the ground are on the verge of an overhaul too.
International Cricket Council recently approved certain changes in the game. The most prominent of these guidelines was the direction to stop the use of saliva on the ball. However, another update comes from South Africa. The African nation has announced a new format cricket. The format is launched by Cricket South Africa and it is formally termed as 3TC. South Africa’s former captain Mignon Du Preez has been appointed as coach for one of the teams in 3TC Match.

3TC opens up as 3 Team Cricket. Solidarity Cup, as they call the match, is a one-off exhibition match that will feature three teams. The game is scheduled for the 26th of June at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. All the proceeds from the match will go to the community. Moreover, the game, in the light of the viral outbreak, will be played behind the doors. The Chief Medical Officer of CSA highlighted that only 200 people, all of whom shall be associated with broadcasting, shall be physically present at the venue.
There will be a total of 36 overs bowled in the game. These 36 overs will be divided into two equal halves of 18 overs each. There would also be a halftime interval. One team shall bat for a 12-over period which will further split into six-over sections. The batting side shall face an opponent for six overs.
Moreover, the side shall have different opponents in their two halves. Naturally, at the halftime, each team would have batted once. In the initial half, teams shall rotate from batting to bowling as decided by a pre-match draw. However, in the latter half, the batting team is determined by the highest scores in the first half. There will only be eight players in a side which means that after the fall of the seventh wicket, the last man will continue batting alone.
He has to score in evens only. If the seventh wicket falls in the first half, the inning shall end. The last man batting alone shall move to the second half. For bowlers, a maximum of three overs each has been sanctioned. There will only be a single new ball used. The team with the greatest number of runs will secure gold and the following teams get silver and a bronze. Moreover, tie for the first position will warrant a super over and the silver medal will be shared if the match gets tied for the second place. The teams are as follows –
