8th March 2020, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the T20 World Cup final was played between India and Australia at the MCG which recorded the highest number of attendance. Both the teams looked confident and were ready for the finals. The atmosphere at MCG was electrifying and perfect to showcase women’s cricket.

Australia winning the all-important toss, elected to bat first and were off to a flying start, courtesy Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney. Though both the batters did get a chance, (in the form of dropped catches) they capitalized on this opportunity really well. It was Alyssa Healy’s show who did hit some unbelievable and exceptional shots.

The Indian bowlers who have been brilliant throughout the world cup had one bad day at office. The Indian fielding which was spoken about quite often failed to perform once again. The bowlers did come back pretty good after 15th over especially Radha Yadav and Poonam Yadav which restricted Australia to 184.

Chasing 185 in the World Cup finals definitely had pressure on the Indian batters but with the batting line up, they should have achieved the target. All eyes were on Shafali Verma, who succumbed to the pressure of this high voltage game. After her, it was Smriti, Jemimah, and Harman who did try to step up, but the pressure kept on piling.

Deepti did try to accelerate but fell short of partners. Good approach was shown by Richa Ghosh who came to bat as concussion substitute for Taniya Bhatia. The Indian Team having an average age of 23 and with little experience were outstanding throughout the tournament. Handling the pressure of finals, huge crowd, the Australians were far far better in every department.

I’m sure India has got a lot of positives from the world cup. Shafali, Taniya, Richa, Poonam to name a few. The team I’m sure will analyze the areas to work on and definitely come back strongly. This team is extremely talented and we are all proud of the Team.
