The result, and point gained from the washout, meant South Africa finished on seven points, one ahead of England (six), with both having already qualified for the semi-finals even before the last day of round-robin fixtures were scheduled to begin.

This implies that the Proteas have benefited, with the point gained and have seven points. They are now one point ahead of England who has six points though, both England and South Africa have qualified for semi-finals.

The positions have changed in the charts and so has the match fixtures for semi-finals changed. The Proteas will now face hosts and defending champions while England will face Group A winners team India on Thursday.

The South African team has shown its capabilities in the World Cup-winning all 3 previous games against England, Thailand, and Pakistan.

However, due to rain, their opportunity of making it four from four was taken away with the game abandoned due to rain.

The other significance of finishing top of the pool is that there is no reserve day for the semi-finals and in the event of 10 overs per side not being possible, the team at the top of the table will proceed to the final.

Both semi-finals will take place on Thursday in Sydney with South Africa in action in the day’s later game, starting at 10:00 (SA time) and 1.30 PM IST.
