USA name their 15 player squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier

The ICC T20 Qualifier for Americas is set to begin on October 18, 2021, in Mexico.

Argentina, Brazil, Canada and the USA will be a part of this tournament to secure a seat in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in 2022.

USA has announced their 15 player squad for the same, to be led by Sindhu Sriharsha. It includes nine uncapped players who are set to make their debuts on the big stage.

Entire Squad: Sindhu Sriharsha (C), Shebani Bhaskar (VC), Akshatha Rao, Anika Kolan, Chetnaa Prasad, Gargi Bhogle, Geetika Kodali, Holly Charles, Isani Vaghela, Laasya Mullapudi, Moksha Chaudhary, Sara Farooq, Suhani Thadani, Tara Norris, Uzma Iftikar.

USA will be playing its first international match since September 2019.

Chair of the Women’s National Selection Panel, Ritesh Kadu, said, “It is incredibly exciting to herald the return of international cricket for Team USA Women with a youthful, dynamic and impressive new squad. We believe the future is bright for the women’s game with the quality of cricket throughout the Sistar Mortgage Women & Girls domestic structure impressing all involved. The simple goal is to qualify from this event and move on to the Global Qualifier. The Selection Panel believes that we have a strong, young and talented squad complemented by several experienced players, which creates a nice balance to be able to achieve that.”

In addition to the squad announcement, the board has also stated that Nadia Gruny, USA’s first T20I fifty scorer, and Samantha Ramautur, USA’s leading wicket-taker in the 2012 and 2017 T20 Qualifiers, have announced their international retirements.

While USA cricket has been working hard to promote cricket in the country through league cricket, a position in the global qualifier will add to support for the team.
