Adelaide Strikers skipper Tahlia McGrath reached a significant personal milestone in the ongoing 12th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League, becoming the ninth player overall and only the third Adelaide Strikers player after Amanda-Jade Wellington and Bridget Patterson to make 150 appearances in the tournament.

However, the occasion ended on a disappointing note for the Australian vice-captain, as her side went down by 14 runs to Georgia Redmayne’s Brisbane Heat in the second game of their campaign.
Skipper Tahlia McGrath won the toss and opted to bowl first, but the decision did not bring the desired reward. The Heat posted a commanding total of 184, setting the Strikers a challenging target of 185. McGrath herself endured a quiet evening with the ball, returning wicketless figures of 2-0-28-0. In reply, the Strikers were restricted to 170/5 in their allotted 20 overs, falling 14 runs short despite strong contributions from Laura Wolvaardt and Madeline Penna.
Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with a fluent 75 off 48 deliveries, while Penna provided valuable support with 68 from 45 balls. Yet the required rate continued to climb, and the Strikers could not quite get over the line. McGrath, coming in at number three, made 13 off 16 balls, and her side suffered their first defeat of the campaign after opening with a 21-run win over Meg Lanning’s Melbourne Stars at the Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide on 31st October 2026, in the fourth match of the tournament.
The milestone is a testament to McGrath’s longevity and consistency in the WBBL. She made her debut for the Adelaide Strikers on 13th December 2015 against the Hobart Hurricanes in Launceston, and has since grown into one of the franchise’s most influential figures. Across 150 matches, she is currently the Strikers’ leading run-scorer, having amassed 2,503 runs at an average of 21.95 and a strike rate of 106.73 in 142 innings, including eight half-centuries.
Her most memorable batting performance came on 18th November 2022 against the Hobart Hurricanes at North Sydney Oval. Chasing 155, McGrath walked in at number three and crafted an unbeaten 93 off just 51 balls, laced with 12 boundaries and four maximums. Her captain’s knock guided the Strikers home with eight wickets in hand in 14.5 overs, and she was deservedly named Player of the Match.
McGrath’s best season with the bat came in the seventh edition in 2021, when she accumulated 338 runs at an average of 42.25 and a strike rate of 114.18 in 14 innings, including one unbeaten half-century across 17 matches. She was appointed Adelaide Strikers captain in 2021, and under her leadership, the franchise enjoyed its most successful era, clinching back-to-back titles in the eighth and ninth editions in 2022 and 2023. Across those two championship-winning campaigns, she contributed 548 runs in 29 innings and matches.
The Strikers’ triumphs in 2022 and 2023 made them only the third team to successfully defend the WBBL title. The franchise had earlier finished as runners-up in the fifth edition in 2019 and the seventh edition in 2021, underlining their status as one of the competition’s most consistent sides.
McGrath’s value to the Strikers extends well beyond her batting. She has also taken 94 wickets at an average of 26.20 and an economy rate of 7.20 in 128 innings, including one four-wicket haul. Those figures place her third on the Strikers’ all-time wicket-taking list. Her best bowling performance came on 16th November 2024 against the Hobart Hurricanes in Adelaide, when she claimed 4/13 from 3.2 overs while defending a target of 141. The Hurricanes were bowled out for 102 in 15.2 overs, handing the Strikers a 38-run win. Her most productive seasons with the ball came in 2019 and 2023, when she took 14 wickets in each edition.
While the 150th appearance did not bring the result McGrath would have wanted, her enduring influence on the Adelaide Strikers remains undeniable. The Strikers will now look to bounce back when they face Sophie Molineux’s Melbourne Renegades at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on 7th November 2026, in the 13th match of the tournament, starting at 10:10 AM IST.
