Sri Lanka have announced their 15-member squad for the women’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games. The team will enter the event after finishing runners-up at the Women’s Asia Cup. Chamari Athapaththu will captain the side. Several players from the Asia Cup campaign have retained their places, while some names have been left out. The squad combines experienced players with young talent.

Vishmi Gunarathne is one of the notable players missing from the squad. She made important contributions during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 and the Women’s Asia Cup. Nilakshika Silva has also been left out after producing match-winning contributions across both tournaments. Chetana Vimukthi is another absence after being recalled to Sri Lanka’s side for the Asia Cup. The squad therefore has some changes after the recent tournament.
Sri Lanka have also included two young players in the group. Seventeen-year-old Chamudi Praboda earned her place after making an impression at the Asia Cup. Nineteen-year-old Rashmika Sewwandi has also been selected for the competition. Her most recent T20I appearance came against Pakistan in August. The inclusion of both players adds youth to a squad that also contains several experienced campaigners.
The experienced names in the squad include Imesha Dulani, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kaveesha Dilhari, Hasini Perera, Sugandika Kumari and Anushka Sanjeewani. These players have been part of Sri Lanka’s recent international cricket. Their presence gives the team a familiar core after the Asia Cup campaign. Athapaththu will lead the group at the Asian Games. Sri Lanka will now look to carry their recent experience into the next competition.
Athapaththu also had a memorable performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. She scored 106 not out off 61 balls and took 1/23 against Ireland. Her all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match award. She will now continue to lead Sri Lanka at the Asian Games. Her role as captain will be important as the side begins another international assignment.
