Somerset, led by skipper Sophie Luff, were up against Essex, led by skipper Grace Scrivens, in the 51st match of the ECB Women’s One Day Cup 2026 at County Ground, Chelmsford on 19th August 2026.

Somerset skipper Sophie Luff won the toss and opted to field first. The Somerset new-ball bowlers Ellie Anderson and Alex Griffiths removed both the openers, including the wicket of the opposition skipper Grace Scrivens. Sophia Smale joined Jodi Grewcock at the crease, and the duo led the recovery with a much-needed 169-run stand for the 3rd wicket, which took them closer to the 200-run mark.
Lola Harris broke the stand by sending Jodi Grewcock (87 off 101 balls) back to the pavilion in the 36th over of the innings to provide the much-needed 3rd breakthrough for Somerset. The bowlers pounced on the opening and kept chipping away with wickets at regular intervals. Essex posted a competitive total of 266/8 in their quota of 50 overs. Sophia Smale (83 off 101 balls), Liberty Heap (39 off 35 balls), wicket-keeper batter Amara Carr (14 off 13 balls), and Eva Gray (11 off 8 balls) were the top performers with the bat for Essex.

Chasing a target of 267, the Somerset openers Bex Odgers and skipper Sophie Luff set up the run chase with a massive 223-run opening stand. Jodi Grewcock broke the stand, by sending the opposition skipper Sophie Luff (103 off 96 balls) back to the pavilion in the 34th over of the run chase to provide the much-needed first breakthrough for Essex.
Emma Corney (11 off 13 balls) joined Bex Odgers at the crease, and the duo took their side to the brink of a comprehensive win with another crucial 37-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Bex Odgers (133* off 124 balls) stayed unbeaten and guided Somerset over the line with 8 wickets in hand and 63 balls to spare. The innings had 14 extras. Jodi Grewcock (8-0-33-2), Sophie Munro (6-0-40-0), Esmae MacGregor (6-0-47-0) and Sophia Smale (5-0-32-0) were the top performers with the ball for Essex.
