Niamh Holland’s 42 Guides Somerset Women to Five-Wicket Win Over Winless Warwickshire

Somerset Women continued their good run in the Women’s T20 Blast 2026 with a comfortable five-wicket win over Warwickshire Women at Taunton. Chasing 124 for victory, Somerset reached the target in 16.2 overs, winning with 22 balls left and picking up another important four points.

The result helped Somerset stay near the top of the points table, while Warwickshire’s tough season continued as they remained without a win after six matches.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Warwickshire Women never really found their rhythm. A few batters got starts, but they could not put together the big partnerships needed to post a bigger total.

Meg Austin was the top scorer for Warwickshire with 31 runs from 26 balls, including four boundaries. She looked comfortable during her stay at the crease and gave her team a decent start, but regular wickets made things difficult for the visitors.

Abigail Freeborn scored 6 and Georgia Redmayne added 4 before both were dismissed early. Charis Pavely made 13, while wicketkeeper Natasha Wraith was run out for just 2. Somerset’s bowlers kept things under control during the middle overs and did not allow Warwickshire to score quickly.

Amu Surenkumar could only manage 3 runs before becoming another wicket to fall. As the innings went on, Warwickshire struggled to build any momentum and were unable to put pressure on the Somerset bowlers.

Mary Taylor then played an important hand lower down the order. She stayed unbeaten on 31 from 32 balls and helped her side add some useful runs towards the end of the innings. Millie Taylor contributed 13 runs, while captain Georgia Davis remained not out on 9.

Warwickshire finished on 123/8 from their 20 overs, a score that looked a little short on a batting-friendly surface.

Somerset’s bowlers shared the wickets and worked well together throughout the innings. Olivia Barnes and Chloe Skelton picked up two wickets each, while Erin Vukusic, Niamh Holland and Lola Harris took one wicket each. Their tight bowling made sure Warwickshire never got the chance to build a big score.

In reply, Somerset made a strong start and quickly settled into the chase. Rebecca Odgers got her team going with an attacking 25 from 16 balls, hitting five boundaries before being dismissed.

Captain Sophie Luff scored 7 before falling soon after, but Somerset remained in a good position. Anika Learoyd added 20 runs and helped keep the chase on track with a useful contribution.

The key knock came from Niamh Holland, who played with confidence and kept the scoreboard moving. She scored 42 runs from 31 balls and hit five fours during her innings. Her knock put Somerset firmly in control and brought them much closer to victory.

After Holland was dismissed, Alex Griffiths remained unbeaten on 10 and calmly guided her side towards the target. Katie Jones chipped in with 8 runs before falling late in the innings. Chloe Skelton then remained unbeaten on 6 and helped complete the chase.

For Warwickshire, Alexa Stonehouse, Charis Pavely, Mary Taylor, Millie Taylor and captain Georgia Davis took one wicket each, but there were not enough runs on the board to defend.

The win took Somerset to 19 points from six matches and kept them among the top teams in the competition. Warwickshire, meanwhile, stayed at the bottom of the table and will be hoping to get their first win of the season in their upcoming matches.
