After Hong Kong Women elected to field first, Malaysia Women had a cautious start but suffered an early setback when Ainna Hamizah Hashim departed for 8 off 8 balls, trapped lbw by Maryam Bibi at 18/1 in the 3.1 over. Despite the early wicket, Winitfred Duraisingam attempted to steady the innings with a patient knock, anchoring the batting lineup during a difficult phase where scoring opportunities were hard to find. Malaysia briefly found momentum through a 16-run stand between Winitfred and Elsa Hunter, who injected intent with a brisk 12 from only 8 deliveries, including two boundaries. However, Hong Kong struck again when Elsa was removed by Kary Chan, leaving Malaysia at 34/2 after 5.1 overs.

The innings continued to fluctuate as captain Mas Elysa struggled for fluency, managing just 2 runs from 14 balls before falling to Emma Lai, while Winitfred’s fighting stay of 35 off 46 balls ended in the 15th over. Her innings, featuring one boundary, proved crucial in ensuring Malaysia remained competitive. Winitfred and Mahirah Izzati Ismail stitched together a valuable 37-run partnership that gave Malaysia a much-needed platform after the middle overs slowdown. Mahirah contributed an important 20 from 19 deliveries, striking two boundaries before becoming Emma Lai’s second victim.

Hong Kong Women’s bowlers kept chipping away with disciplined spells. Emma Lai emerged as the standout performer, returning impressive figures of 2/18 in four overs, while Kary Chan was economical with 1/10 in four overs, maintaining pressure through accurate lines. Maryam Bibi picked up 1/17, Amanda Cheung claimed 1/15, and Shing Chan also chipped in with a wicket. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Malaysia found late resistance through an unbeaten 15-run stand between Dhanusri Muhunan (6* off 10) and Nur Dania Syuhada (9* off 13), helping the hosts close at 103/6 in 20 overs. Extras also played a role, contributing 10 runs to the total.

Chasing 104 for victory, Hong Kong Women endured a nightmare beginning as opener Shanzeen Shahzad was dismissed for a duck by Nur Dania Syuhada with just one run on the board. Captain Natasha Miles tried to respond with a quick 6 off 6, but Malaysia’s bowlers quickly tightened their grip. At 14/2, Hong Kong needed a rebuilding effort, and Shing Chan alongside Kary Chan attempted to stabilise the innings with a small partnership worth 11 runs. Yet, the pressure kept mounting as wickets fell at frequent intervals.

Shing Chan top-scored with 13 from 21 balls but failed to accelerate, while Maryam Bibi battled hard for her 17 off 33 deliveries in a patient but ultimately ineffective resistance. Partnerships never truly developed, as Malaysia’s bowlers maintained exceptional discipline. Hong Kong slipped from 25/3 to 34/4 and then 44/5 by the drinks break in 9.5 overs, effectively putting the chase beyond reach. Contributions from Amanda Cheung (7), Emma Lai (3), Hiu Ying Cheung (3), and Alison Siu (6) were unable to change the momentum as wickets continued tumbling.
