Jess Kerr is one of the key fast bowlers in the New Zealand women’s cricket team. Born in Wellington, she comes from a cricket family. Her younger sister Amelia Kerr also plays for New Zealand. Her parents played domestic cricket, and her grandfather Bruce Murray played Test cricket for New Zealand.

Jess grew up in Tawa, a suburb in Wellington. During her school days, she was very good at athletics and broke many running records in her age group. But she also faced health issues when she was young. At the age of nine, she was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, and later she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Even after these problems, Jess stayed strong and continued to chase her dream of becoming a cricketer.

Before playing for New Zealand, Jess did very well in domestic cricket for Wellington Blaze. She became the top wicket-taker in the 2019-20 Women’s Super Smash season, which helped her get a place in the national team.

Jess made her WT20I debut for New Zealand against South Africa in February 2020. Since then, she has become a regular player in the team’s T20 side. She has played 50 WT20I matches and taken 37 wickets. Her best bowling figures in WT20Is are 3/16. Jess is known for swinging the ball and bowling with good control. She mainly bowls with the new ball and often gives New Zealand early wickets.
