Samjhana Kumari Khadka Anchors Nepal Women to Narrow Victory Over Malaysia Women

Nepal Women held their nerve in a low-scoring thriller to edge past Malaysia Women by two wickets in the Malaysia Women vs Nepal Women T20I Bilateral Series 2026 encounter. Chasing a modest target, Nepal Women were tested throughout the innings by disciplined Malaysian bowling, but crucial middle-order contributions and calm finishing touches from Kabita Joshi and Riya Sharma eventually guided the visitors home with 15 balls to spare in a gripping contest.

The match began with Malaysia Women looking to settle into their innings after being put under pressure early by Nepal’s disciplined bowling attack. Ainna Hamizah Hashim tried to provide some stability at the top and managed 7 runs from 18 deliveries before Kabita Kunwar struck the first breakthrough. Elsa Hunter briefly injected momentum into the innings with a brisk 10 off 14 balls, striking two boundaries, but Nepal’s bowlers consistently maintained tight lines and lengths to avoid allowing any meaningful partnership to flourish.

Malaysia’s innings never truly gained momentum as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals. Mahirah Izzati was run out without scoring, increasing the pressure further on the middle order. Mas Elysa Yasmin attempted to counterattack and produced one of the more aggressive knocks of the innings, scoring 8 from just 9 balls with a boundary, while Nur Dania Syuhada added 6 from 7 deliveries. However, Nepal Women kept chipping away with wickets through disciplined spells from both the seamers and spinners.

A brief partnership between Irdina Beh and Ariana Natasya tried to steady the innings during the middle overs. Beh consumed deliveries with a cautious 7 off 18 balls, while Ariana managed only 2 runs from 7 deliveries before falling to Puja Mahato. Dhansuri Sri Muhunan remained unbeaten on 7 from 15 balls but lacked support from the tail as wickets continued tumbling at the other end. Ariana Najwa and Nur Qalysha Noreffendi were unable to contribute significantly, leaving Malaysia struggling for momentum in the closing overs. Aisyya Eleesa Firdauz added a useful 4 from 5 balls late in the innings, helping Malaysia crawl towards a defendable score.

Nepal’s bowling performance was led brilliantly by Puja Mahato, who delivered a match-defining spell of 3 for 13 in her four overs with an economy of just 3.25. Manisha Kumari Upadhayay also bowled with tremendous control, finishing with 2 for 17 from her full quota, while Riya Sharma picked up two wickets for 13 runs in 2.5 overs. Kabita Kunwar contributed with 1 for 12, and Sita Rana Magar also claimed a wicket while conceding only 11 runs in her three-over spell. Their collective effort bundled Malaysia Women out for just 67 in 16.5 overs.

In reply, Nepal Women’s chase began nervously as Malaysia struck early to create pressure. Bindu Rawal departed without scoring after Aisyya Eleesa Firdauz produced an early breakthrough. Puja Mahato also failed to trouble the scorers, leaving Nepal Women wobbling at 4/2. However, Samjhana Kumari Khadka stood firm at the top of the order and played the anchor role beautifully. She compiled a composed 32 from 39 deliveries, including two boundaries, and stitched together valuable partnerships that kept Nepal in the contest despite the regular fall of wickets.

Rubi Poddar provided important support with 15 runs from 22 balls, adding a stabilising partnership with Samjhana during the middle overs. Their stand helped Nepal recover from the early setbacks and slowly chip away at the target. Even though Indu Barma and Rubina Chhetry could not make substantial contributions, Nepal kept the required run rate under control. Kabita Kunwar added a handy 3 runs before becoming another victim of Nur Qalysha Noreffendi, who was Malaysia’s standout bowler.

With the match delicately poised in the final overs, Sita Rana Magar scored a crucial 5 from 7 balls before departing, leaving Nepal still needing a few runs with pressure mounting. Kabita Joshi then played a calm unbeaten knock of 6 from 8 balls, while Riya Sharma stayed unbeaten on 4 from 8 deliveries as the pair guided Nepal Women across the line at 71 for 8 in 17.3 overs.

Malaysia’s women’s bowlers fought impressively to defend the small total and kept the contest alive until the very end. Nur Qalysha Noreffendi starred with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for 21 runs in her four overs. Elsa Hunter bowled a disciplined spell and picked up 2 for 16, while Aisyya Eleesa Firdauz also grabbed two wickets for 14 runs. Nur Dania Syuhada bowled economically and finished with figures of 1 for 10 from four overs, ensuring Nepal never had an easy passage during the chase.

Despite Malaysia Women producing a spirited bowling display and taking the game deep, Nepal Women ultimately held their composure in the tense closing moments to seal a hard-fought two-wicket victory in this closely contested Women’s T20I clash.
