Tasmania Tigers have signed England all-rounder Alice Davidson-Richards as their overseas player for the upcoming domestic season, with the experienced seam-bowling allrounder replacing Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce in the squad.

Bryce, who had been an influential figure for Tasmania in recent seasons, was not offered a contract this year because of availability issues linked to her growing international commitments with Scotland. Her absence opened the door for Tasmania to recruit Davidson-Richards, who brings significant international and domestic experience across all formats.
Davidson-Richards has represented England Test, ODI and T20I cricket and is regarded as one of the most versatile players in the English domestic structure. The 31-year-old offers Tasmania flexibility through her middle-order batting and medium-pace bowling, while also adding leadership experience to a squad that has undergone several changes ahead of the new season.
Her international breakthrough came during England’s Test against South Africa in 2022, when she produced a memorable century on debut at Taunton. Davidson-Richards scored 107 from 194 deliveries, becoming only the second England woman to score a century in her first Test appearance. She also contributed with the ball in the same match, finishing with figures of 1/43.
In ODI cricket, Davidson-Richards has played 10 matches for England, scoring 169 runs at an average of 33.80, including two half-centuries and a highest score of 53. With the ball, she has taken seven wickets at 21.42, with best figures of 3/35. Her T20I record includes eight appearances and four wickets, including career-best figures of 3/5.
While her international opportunities have been limited, Davidson-Richards has consistently been among the more dependable performers in England’s domestic competitions. She was a regular contributor in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and Charlotte Edwards Cup, often balancing finishing duties with the bat alongside important middle-overs bowling responsibilities.
Her ability to contribute in multiple phases of the game is expected to suit Tasmania’s setup well, especially after the departure of Bryce, whose all-round influence had become central to the side in recent seasons.
Bryce had re-established herself as one of Scotland’s leading players during her time with Tasmania and has since become one of the most highly regarded associate cricketers in the women’s game. However, with Scotland preparing for another major international season, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, her availability for a full domestic campaign became increasingly difficult.
Tasmania’s recruitment of Davidson-Richards also forms part of a broader squad refresh ahead of the upcoming Women’s National Cricket League and domestic T20 season. The club has awarded full-time contracts to several new signings, including Kate Pelle, Ella Hayward, Alice Davidson-Richards and Caity Mair, while Mia Barwick has joined the squad as a rookie player.
The additions reflect Tasmania’s intention to strengthen both depth and versatility after an inconsistent previous campaign. Davidson-Richards, in particular, arrives with a reputation for adaptability and experience, qualities Tasmania will hope can help stabilise the squad during a busy domestic season.
