Ayesha Zafar Hits Unbeaten 102 as Pakistan Women Beat Zimbabwe by Record 153 Runs

The opening T20I between hosts Pakistan and Zimbabwe in Karachi turned into a commanding display of power-hitting, aggressive intent, and disciplined bowling as the hosts completely outplayed Zimbabwe to secure a massive 153-run victory.

The game belonged to Ayesha Zafar, whose breathtaking unbeaten century lit up the contest and set the tone for one of Pakistan’s most dominant performances in recent T20I cricket. From the very first over, Pakistan looked determined to impose themselves, and despite an early setback, the innings evolved into a relentless assault that Zimbabwe never managed to recover from. The match also highlighted Pakistan’s depth with both bat and ball, while Zimbabwe struggled to contain the flow of runs and later crumbled under scoreboard pressure.

Pakistan Women’s innings did not begin perfectly as Muneeba Ali departed early after scoring just 2 runs off 3 balls, caught by Beloved Biza off Nomvelo Sibanda with the score reading 23/1 in the second over. However, the early wicket only brought Ayesha Zafar to the crease sooner, and from that moment onward, the momentum shifted completely in Pakistan’s favour. Gull Feroza played a fearless hand at the top, smashing 37 off only 19 deliveries with eight boundaries at a strike rate touching 194.73.

Her attacking approach ensured Zimbabwe’s bowlers never settled into consistent lines and lengths. Together, Gull and Ayesha added a rapid 34-run partnership that accelerated the innings during the powerplay before Gull was dismissed at 57/2 in the fifth over by Precious Marange. Pakistan briefly lost another wicket when Saira Jabeen contributed 5 runs before falling to Nomvelo Sibanda, leaving the hosts at 68/3. At that stage, Zimbabwe hoped to pull things back, but the game soon slipped away through a devastating middle-order counterattack.

Ayesha Zafar then produced one of the finest T20I innings seen in Pakistan Women’s cricket in recent times. Calm in the beginning but increasingly destructive as the innings progressed, she remained unbeaten on 102 off just 47 deliveries, hammering 15 boundaries and two sixes at an astonishing strike rate above 217. Her innings combined placement, timing, and fearless intent against both pace and spin. Natalia Pervaiz added 9 runs during a short stand before becoming Michelle Mavunga’s victim at 100/4, but Zimbabwe’s relief was temporary.

Aliya Riaz joined Ayesha and immediately launched into an explosive innings of her own. Riaz smashed 48 from only 23 balls, including four boundaries and four sixes, striking at over 208. Their partnership took Pakistan beyond 150 and ensured the pressure mounted with every over. After Aliya fell at 167/5 in the 16th over, Fatima Sana walked in and maintained the tempo brilliantly with an unbeaten 21 from 13 deliveries. Together, Fatima and Ayesha added crucial late runs in the death overs, helping Pakistan Women finish on a commanding 237/5 in 20 overs at a remarkable run rate of 11.85.

Zimbabwe Women’s bowling unit endured a difficult outing despite moments of effort from individual bowlers. Nomvelo Sibanda picked up 2 wickets but conceded 59 runs in her four overs as Pakistan’s batters targeted her aggressively during the middle overs. Precious Marange claimed the important wicket of Gull Feroza and finished with 1/39, while Beloved Biza also managed a wicket but struggled to contain the scoring rate. Michelle Mavunga took one wicket in her two overs, though she too proved expensive.

Chasing a daunting target, Zimbabwe Women never truly looked settled against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack. The innings began disastrously when Kelis Ndhlovu fell for just 2 runs at 3/1, dismissed by Sadia Iqbal. Natasha Mtombo attempted to counterattack with an entertaining 24 off 20 balls featuring four boundaries, but wickets kept tumbling regularly around her. Beloved Biza struck a quick 10 before becoming Fatima Sana’s victim, while Kelly Ndiraya was dismissed for a duck in the very next over. Zimbabwe slipped to 15/4 inside four overs, and from there the chase became increasingly difficult.

Run outs added to their misery as Runyararo Pasipanodya and Adel Zimunu were both sent back through sharp fielding efforts, with Ayesha Zafar contributing directly to the field as well. Vimbai Mutungwindu and Nomvelo Sibanda both failed to build meaningful partnerships, while Michelle Mavunga’s 8 and Adel Zimunu’s 18 were among the few double-digit contributions for Zimbabwe. Pakistan’s bowlers executed their plans brilliantly throughout the innings. Captain Fatima Sana led from the front with a superb spell of 3/7 in three overs, consistently troubling Zimbabwe’s batters with disciplined pace bowling and variations. Sadia Iqbal was equally effective, claiming 2 wickets while maintaining control during the powerplay.

Natalia Pervaiz chipped in with an economical and impactful spell of 2/3 in two overs, ensuring Zimbabwe never recovered after the early collapse. Rameen Shamim picked up a wicket, while Tuba Hassan and Amber Kainat maintained pressure through tight overs that prevented any chance of recovery. Zimbabwe Women were eventually bowled out for just 84 in 18.2 overs, handing Pakistan Women a crushing 153-run victory in Karachi.
