In a thrilling boost for domestic women’s cricket, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has named Sayali Satghare, Saima Thakor, and Humaira Kazi as the icon players for the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League 2026.

This star-studded trio, Sayali donning the colours of SoBo Mumbai Falcons, Saima anchoring Thane Sky Risers, and Humaira spearheading Aakash Tigers, brings a potent mix of international pedigree and domestic grit, setting the stage for a high-octane auction today and a league poised to reshape Mumbai’s cricketing future.
The announcement, made on Friday, arrives at a pivotal moment for Indian women’s cricket. Just a few days after skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s side endured a 4-1 away bilateral series defeat to Laura Wolvaardt’s South Africa (April 17-27, 2026), eyes are turning to redemption. India will reveal their squad for the 10th ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, hosted by England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, 2026, later this evening, heightening the stakes for emerging talents like these icons.
Sayali Satghare and Saima Thakor boast India caps and white-ball international experience, injecting proven quality into the fledgling league. Sayali, fresh off a stellar role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) triumphant 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) campaign, their second title under Smriti Mandhana, following Mumbai Indians’ wins in 2023 and 2025, also made her Test debut in Perth’s W.A.C.A.
There, she claimed a memorable four-wicket haul. Saima, meanwhile, has featured in both white-ball formats for India but has slipped off selectors’ radars lately; she represented UP Warriorz in WPL’s 2023 and 2024 seasons. Rounding out the trio, Humaira Kazi shines as a consistent domestic performer with India A exposure and stints with the Mumbai Indians in WPL’s inaugural 2023 and 2024 editions.
MCA President Ajinkya Naik hailed the selection as foundational: “The Icon Players set a strong foundation for the inaugural T20 Mumbai Women’s League. This league has been envisioned as a long-term platform to nurture talent, strengthen the domestic structure, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the women’s game in India. These players bring proven quality, experience, and leadership, which will elevate the standard of the competition and inspire young talent across the city.”
Echoing that vision, Rajdip Gupta, chairman of the league governing council, emphasised team-building: “These Icon Players are central to building strong team identities and a competitive ecosystem. Their presence ensures that the league begins with the right mix of experience and ambition as we look to create a high-performance platform for women’s cricket.”
Today’s auction amplifies the buzz, with 363 women players registered for the women’s edition of the league, showcasing Mumbai’s vast talent pool. As bids fly and squads take shape, this league promises to fortify the city’s cricketing pipeline, fueling India’s charge toward World Cup glory and beyond.
