Mozambique Women’s innings never quite found momentum after being asked to bat, as Malawi’s bowlers struck early and consistently to keep the scoring in check. The opening pair of Olga Mondlane and Palmira Cuinica struggled to settle, both falling for ducks, with Lucy Malino and Sugeni Kananjii setting the tone. Amelia Mundundo and Wisley Bucuane also failed to counter the disciplined bowling attack, leaving Mozambique reeling at 4 wickets down with barely any runs on the board.

The pressure kept mounting as Irene Mulhovo was dismissed cheaply, making it 5 down in no time. At this stage, Cristina Magaia stood as the lone warrior, anchoring the innings with a resilient 25 off 26 balls, including three boundaries. She found some support from Regina Mazumba, who contributed a steady 11 runs, and later Laura Chipanga chipped in with 5 runs. However, the lack of substantial partnerships hurt Mozambique badly, as wickets kept falling at regular intervals.

From a bowling perspective, Malawi Women were exceptional. Lucy Malino was the standout performer, delivering a match-winning spell of 4 wickets for just 3 runs in her 4 overs, dismantling the top and middle order with precision. Sugeni Kananjii also impressed, picking up 2 wickets for 14 runs, while Sophia Chinawa and Winnie Matabwa chipped in with a wicket each. The collective bowling effort ensured Mozambique were bundled out for just 60 runs in 14.5 overs, with extras contributing a notable 17 runs.

Chasing a modest target, Malawi Women approached the innings with caution but confidence. Sophia Chinawa got the innings underway but was dismissed for 5, giving Mozambique a slight opening. Euless Chiralile then steadied things with a composed 15 off 18 balls, building a crucial partnership with Praise Maziya. The duo ensured there were no further hiccups early on, guiding Malawi past the initial phase safely.

After Chiralile’s dismissal, Sugeni Kananjii played a brisk knock of 13 runs off just 10 balls, including two boundaries, accelerating the scoring rate and putting Mozambique further on the back foot. Praise Maziya remained the backbone of the chase, finishing unbeaten on 10 runs, while Christina Bwanali provided support at the other end.

Mozambique’s bowlers showed glimpses of fight, with Angelica Salomao being the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets for 17 runs. Laura Chipanga also picked up a wicket, but the low total meant there was little room for error. Despite their efforts, Malawi chased down the target comfortably in 12.3 overs, finishing at 61/3.

This dominant 7-wicket victory, achieved with 45 balls to spare, highlighted Malawi Women’s all-round strength. With Lucy Malino’s outstanding bowling performance earning her the Player of the Match, Malawi stamped their authority in the tournament with a convincing win built on disciplined bowling, sharp fielding, and a composed batting effort.
