Former captain of U-19 Odisha Women Cricket team Ritu Singh cracks the state’s civil services exam

The best feeling is when something comes arriving at your doorstep when you least expect it, recently the civil services of Odisha announced their 2018 session results on Monday. Ritu Singh, 26 years old a police constable and sportswomen has secured 204th rank and she could not believe it. Ritu is serving at the district police Head Quarters in Koraput. Sharing her experience with OMMCOM NEWS she said, “I was returning from office in a bus when my brother-in-law called me and asked if I have seen the results. I had not expected to crack it in the first attempt but on checking the results I found to have secured 204 rank.”

Ritu has been connected to Cricket for a while, her interest in Cricket kept her on the hook. Starting from her early years and then getting selected in State level team. in 2011 she was appointed as the captain of the U-19 Women’s Cricket Team of Odisha and the journey gets better, around the time in 2015 she was appointed as Constable in the Koraput Police Headquarters. Whilst all these responsibilities she then decided to take a break from Cricket and prepare for civil services and rest is history. Her Journey and struggles to reach here is inspirational, her dedication is what was a breakthrough for her career.

She is such a hardworking individual that lack of resources did not hinder her efforts to make things right. She used to refer video tutorials on youtube, created her own strategies, read newspapers regularly to stay updated and spent most of her time in preparation for about 10 to 12 hours daily. Initially, she was doubtful about her choice but grabbed confidence after clearing the prelims. A laptop was gifter by her brother in law which catalyzed this process and proved as a motivation to go for mains. The result which was not even around her expectation is a sheer result of her determination to lead a better and satisfying life.

Ritu has 3 siblings amongst which she is the 2nd one. Her father Raja Ram Singh and Mother Ranju Devi of Jeypore must be really proud and grateful for a daughter like her as she has left no stone unturned to manifest everything she got. Ritu completed her schooling education from Modern English School and college from Vikram Deb Autonomous College.

As the results were out, she was felicitated by Koraput SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo on Tuesday with best wishes for her bright future. As an OAS officer, Riut wants to work for the upliftment of her district.

“Koraput is considered as a backward district. There is a communication gap and a lack of facilities. I want to connect all the facilities till my district and address the loopholes,” she said.

Its a fact that a woman paves the path of society and Ritu is well fitted in that category, she will come out as a role model to all the success aspiring girls out there.
