After being put into bat, Cyprus Women began cautiously, trying to gauge the conditions early on. The opening stand, however, didn’t yield much momentum as Dilini Ishara fell cheaply for 0, leaving the side at 2/1. Ayesha Dirannehalege attempted to anchor the innings but managed just 6 off 24 balls before becoming one of Maria-afroditi Vervitsiotis’ victims, further slowing the progress. Nadeesha Waruwangodage’s brief stay (1 off 9) meant Cyprus slipped into early trouble at 18/3, struggling to find fluency.

The innings was then rebuilt through a vital partnership between skipper Iresha Chathurani and Thamara De Silva. Chathurani played the standout knock of the innings, scoring a composed 42 off 43 balls, striking two boundaries and maintaining a steady strike rate. De Silva supported her with a measured 7 off 15 deliveries. Their partnership not only stabilized the innings but also provided a much-needed platform, taking Cyprus past the halfway stage with some control.

After De Silva’s dismissal at 41/4, the middle order chipped in with small but valuable contributions. Dinelka Koralalage added 2, while Samanthi Dunukedeniya scored 1. Sassi Jayakodi remained unbeaten on 5, ensuring Cyprus batted through their 20 overs. Nilusha Waruwangodage fell late for 0, but crucially, extras played a significant role, contributing 20 runs (including byes and wides), which ultimately proved decisive. Cyprus Women closed their innings at 84/8 in 20 overs, a modest total but one that had the potential to be defended on a tricky surface.

Greece Women’s bowlers shared the workload effectively. Sofia-nefeli Georgota was particularly impressive, picking up 3 wickets for just 6 runs in her 4 overs, maintaining excellent control. Maria-afroditi Vervitsiotis claimed 2 wickets but was slightly expensive, conceding 19 runs. Adamantia Makri also chipped in with 2 wickets for 9 runs, while Maria Syrioti took 1/12. Aggeliki Savvani, though wicketless, conceded 38 runs, which slightly tilted momentum back towards Cyprus.

Chasing 85, Greece Women started cautiously but lost Aggeliki-ioanna Argyropoulou early for 4, making it 18/1. A brief partnership followed between Aggeliki Savvani (10 off 25) and Adamantia Makri (9 off 17), but both struggled to accelerate. Their dismissals left Greece at 38/3, increasing the pressure. Maria Syrioti (2 off 12) couldn’t provide stability, and wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.

Maria Polimeri offered some resistance with 15 off 25 balls, forming a small partnership with Sofia-nefeli Georgota, who scored 10 off 16. However, the required rate kept climbing, and Cyprus’ bowlers maintained tight lines. The middle and lower order couldn’t capitalize, with Vervitsiotis and Kourkoulou falling for ducks, while Elpida Kallous also departed without scoring. Despite some late resistance and the help of 25 extras, Greece Women were restricted to 76/9 in their 20 overs, falling short by 8 runs in a low-scoring thriller.

Cyprus Women’s bowling attack was disciplined throughout. Samanthi Dunukedeniya was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets for 13 runs in her 4 overs, applying pressure consistently. Chandrika Wijesinghe also took 2 wickets, conceding 18 runs. Ayesha Dirannehalege and Dinelka Koralalage picked up one wicket each, while Iresha Chathurani contributed with a wicket as well, showcasing a complete team effort.
