Tayla Vlaeminck sidelined for 2-3 weeks with knee injury ahead of T20 World Cup 2020

Back in January, Vlaeminck suffered a knee injury at training. However, this was not the only injury she witnessed; prior to this she underwent two knee reconstructions and recovered from a dislocated shoulder. Her selection in the Ashes squad was a reward for effort after she missed most of the Australian summer because of a knee injury.

And now she has suffered an injury scare ahead of the T20 World Cup, with a knee strain to rule her out of Victoria’s upcoming 50-over Women’s National Cricket League matches.

“Tayla sustained a mild ACL strain while bowling at training prior to Christmas,” a CV spokesperson told cricket.com.au.

“Following advice from team medical staff, Tayla is expected to miss two to three weeks and will be unavailable for the upcoming WNCL fixtures for Victoria.”

She’s the first female Bendigo cricket product to pull on the Baggy Green cap and the first Bendigo cricketer to play Test cricket since Craig White played the last of his 30 Test matches for England in 2002.

It’s a change of scenery for Vlaeminck, who made her WBBL debut for the Melbourne Renegades last season and played six matches, including a brilliant haul of 4-29 on debut against Sydney Thunder.

Athletic, fast and a fierce competitor – the same traits that have endeared Vlaeminck to her Australian team-mates.

The 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup is around the corner and will take place from February 21 to March 8, 2020, in Australia. We hope for her speedy recovery.
