Pakistan Women Revamp Squad for South Africa Tour Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

Pakistan women’s cricket team have named a refreshed squad for their tour of South Africa, aimed at sharpening their game ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tour includes three T20 Internationals (T20Is) followed by three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) across various South African venues, giving the team needed match practice in both white-ball formats ahead of the global event.

Pakistan has made several changes, blending experience with new talent. Uncapped batter Saira Jabeen and fast bowler Humna Bilal have earned their first T20I call-ups, while Eyman Fatima and Tuba Hassan return in the shortest format.

In ODIs, experienced players Najiha Alvi, Ayesha Zafar, Gull Feroza and Tasmia Rubab have been recalled after missing out on the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 squad. Diana Baig is named only in the ODI squad. Fatima Sana continues as captain for both formats, providing leadership continuity.

Pakistan’s recent results have been mixed. In their last ODI series against South Africa in September 2025, Pakistan narrowly lost the second match by 25 runs (DLS) despite Sidra Amin scoring 122 and Natalia Pervaiz adding 73 in a high-scoring game, showing strong batting depth. South Africa posted 292/3 in that match with Tazmin Brits (171*) and Laura Wolvaardt (100) contributing big scores.

Earlier in the same series, South Africa chased down Pakistan’s 259/2 to win the opening ODI, and Pakistan won the third ODI by six wickets, their only victory in the 2025 tour. At the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, Pakistan endured a heavy defeat in one encounter, being dismissed for 83 in a rain-affected match while South Africa made 312/9, a 150-run margin under DLS conditions.

Overall, South Africa have been a tough opponent. In ODIs, South Africa have often dominated Pakistan, including winning several recent World Cup and bilateral matches. Pakistan’s win in a lone ODI on the 2025 South Africa series showed promise but the overall head-to-head still favours the hosts. In T20Is, Pakistan have had competitive moments and recorded wins, but South African batting strength and consistency usually give them an edge in tight contests.
