Sydney Thunder have secured one of Australia’s fastest-rising talents for the long haul, with Georgia Voll extending her contract until the end of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 13, keeping her at the club through 2027.

The 20-year-old switched from Brisbane Heat ahead of WBBL 10 in search of a bigger role, and her impact since then made her a top priority for the Thunder. Head coach Lisa Keightley called the extension a major boost, saying it was “really exciting to have one of Australia’s brightest young talents committing to the Thunder.”
In the WBBL, Voll has amassed 1274 runs from 68 innings, at a strike rate of 116.24, and also taken 12 wickets with the ball from 20 innings, maintaining an economy rate of 6.98, and respective bests of 97* and 4/19.
Voll’s move to Sydney in 2024 was driven by the chance to open the batting consistently and partner her longtime friend Phoebe Litchfield. The opportunity unlocked her best cricket. Her standout WBBL knocks- 92 at North Sydney Oval and 97 at the MCG- pushed her into Australia’s ODI squad last December.
She then delivered a dream international debut at Allan Border Field, scoring 46* and following it up with her maiden ODI century, making her difficult to leave out when Alyssa Healy remained injured. Across 2025, she featured in all formats, making her T20I and Test debuts during the Ashes and joining the squad for the Women’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Her form in global leagues has been equally strong. She struck 154 runs in just 3 games for UP Warriorz in the WPL, including a record-equaling 99*. She was also the first pick in The Hundred draft, signed by Birmingham Phoenix ahead of several senior players.
While Voll hasn’t hit big scores yet this WBBL season, she has contributed with the ball, including 2 wickets against the Melbourne Renegades. Thunder, who have lost their opening two games, next meet the Sydney Sixers at Drummoyne Oval.
Voll said she was “very happy to be staying put with Thunder” and thanked Trent Copeland and Keightley for trusting her with more responsibility. She added that despite a tough beginning, the group knows they are building something special and hopes the Sydney Smash will help put their campaign back on track.
