Pakistan’s top-order batter Sidra Amin has received an official reprimand for violating the ICC Code of Conduct after the Women’s World Cup 2025 match against India in Colombo.

The incident occurred during Pakistan’s run chase in the 40th over when Amin, frustrated after being dismissed, forcefully struck her bat on the pitch. The umpires, including Lauren Agenbag, Nimali Perera, and third umpire Kerrin Klaaste, decided to raise the charge based on Article 2.2, which pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment.
Amin accepted the charge without contesting it, resulting in a formal reprimand and one demerit point, marking her first in the past two years. Under ICC regulations, a Level 1 offence like this can lead to a reprimand, a fine of up to 50% of the match fee, and one or two demerit points.
While Amin’s disciplinary action made headlines, the match itself was dominated by India, who secured a convincing 88-run victory at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Batting first, India posted a challenging total of 247 all out in 50 overs, despite a few early hiccups. Opener Pratika Rawal contributed 31 runs, followed by Smriti Mandhana with 23. Harleen Deol played a crucial role in stabilising the innings with a composed 46, while Jemimah Rodrigues added 32. Richa Ghosh’s late flourish of 35* off just 20 balls helped India reach a respectable total.
In response, Pakistan struggled to get their innings going, losing early wickets and finding themselves at a precarious 26/3 by the 8th over. Sidra Amin managed to stand out with a commendable 81 runs off 106 balls, showcasing her fighting spirit, but ultimately lacked the support she needed. Natalia Pervaiz’s 33 provided some resistance, but the team was unable to mount a credible chase.
India’s bowlers, led by Kranti Goud’s impressive figures of 3/20 and Deepti Sharma with 3 wickets, proved too strong, and Pakistan ended their innings at 159 all out in just 43 overs. The match also featured some controversy, including a perplexing run-out of opener Muneeba Ali that sparked protests from Pakistan’s captain, Fatima Sana. Another moment of tension arose when Deepti Sharma accidentally struck Sidra Amin with a throw, leading to an intense stare-down but no apology exchanged.
India’s commanding performance reinforced its dominance against Pakistan, now holding a 12-0 record in Women’s ODIs. They demonstrated a well-rounded game with steady contributions from the top order, a thrilling end from Richa, and a disciplined bowling display. There were glimpses of potential for Pakistan, particularly in Amin’s innings, but inconsistencies throughout the batting order hindered their chances.
